epic, if only because of the voiceover. and i dance dance dance and i meow meow meow. that could be my theme song. anyway. i'm sure you are all tired of insubstantial (or absent) posts. i have 5 thoughtful ones coming. promise. it's just that my office is hella busy. tis the season?

friday feline: kitty cat dance
11.07.2008
i can has change nao?
it's official. lolcats have made it to the white house. alright, clearly not. but it enabled me to have a good friday feline giggle at the same time as address the new change.gov that debuted.
of course there's been considerable buzz around the launch of the presidential-elect blog and website, since it carries his campaign past his election, which some folks thought would end when the road to the white house did. granted, people are still wondering what he's going to do with his new phone list.
i like this "transparency" and carry-through... though it does make me wonder how it will effect the reception of his years as President. if he makes good on promises, it could be a great thing. if he doesn't, it could be detrimental, moreso than previous politicians' promises.
but back to the "phone lists" and all the involvement the Obama army has had. will there be a way for them to continue to stay involved? i'm sure that will be resolved if the folks running his web2.0 stuff are as clever as they've been so far. "tell us your story" is a typical, if nice, gesture. as of right now, you can't leave comments on his blog.
how much involvement do you think is appropriate in this new "2.0" presidency?
UPDATE: & then there's this... obamachangefor.us and his flickr.
&PS>> if you're still here just for kitties and puppies, someone made up a drinking game to go with the live puppy stream i mentioned yesterday. find it here. i chose Autumn. happy weekend!

friday felines: cutness will always win.
Breaking Bad News with Baby Animals.
got some bad news? grandma's dead? say it with a puppy. oh, you mean your 401k is royally fucked and you're now paying its loans? say it with a kitten. it's a far cry from the sophistication of someecards, but i do think they're on to something.

friday felines: Simon's Cat
some of you have known the wonder of Simon's Cat when the "cat wake up call" -- titled Cat Man Do -- swept the internets with something akin to viral wonder. (there's that word again.) in case you missed that vid, click here.
but here's another installment, equally funny, i'd argue, and anyone who's had a cat and tried to watch TV at the same time is sure to sympathize. me, it happens with House and Heroes. PS who is SO EXCITED to finally meet Peter/Nathan/Gabriel's DADDY?! mwuahahahaha. i am so stoked. anyway. here's the cat vid.
in other news, it's a friday and i have a lot of work to do. LAME. so this will be my only post for the day. i promise further snark on tuesday. since i'll be off and at a Rise Against (!!!) concert on monday.

friday felines: wigs for your cat. srsly.
and you thought i was kidding. nope, it's for real: Kitty Wigs, which come in Pink Passion, Bashful Blonde, Silver Fox, and Electric Blue for $50 a pop plus S&H.
a small price to pay to harass your cat for hours trying to get him or her to actually wear it. KW doesn't promise your cat will tolerate the wig--or you. check out the FAQ. i think my cat is a Pink Passion sort of lady.
where are the male cat wigs, hmm? i need Ken style. and maybe an afro. i do think perhaps my cat would best be personified with a Lenny Kravitz-esque do.
if you should want to all out dress up your cat, i suggest going to this site, after learning to read Japanese. and if you can read Japanese, then be sure to order in advance.
not enough cat costume fun for one day? check out these embarrassing shots. cat frog. pumpkin cat. pig cat (not to be confused with manbearpig). more? try the flickr group or the costume cat blog.

friday felines: engineering cats.
clearly, engineers have too much time on their hands. clearly.
maybe they should work in advertising. but then there'd be less of these videos.

friday felines: revenge on the pocket pony.
just when you thought it was safe, pocket pony, you up and ruined it for everyone.
and if that isn't enough kitty giggles for your friday, the PSI explain how LOLcats can save the world. and you thought world-saving had something to do with cheerleaders, didn't you? shows what you know.
[disclosure: i was/am a Heroes fanatic.]

friday felines: winged cats, china.
found at the Daily Digresser, there seems to be a "winged cat" found in China. now, there have been pictures of winged cats throughout the centuries, and in truth, that would be pretty bad ass--even if they wound up being like penguins and can't actually fly.
but the thing is, they can't actually fly. they're not wings. there are usually three causes for these "wings" to appear: extraordinarily matted hair (think cats with dreads), genetic mutation (nubbins! stumps!), and elastic skin (think old lady chin flesh). in fact it's kinda gross to think about (at least in the case of the matted hair, which often traps feces and parasites). the site linked just before actually discusses the chinese cat. they feel it's genetic.
some times these issues develop around the rump, giving the appearance of two tails. but don't worry, @bmorrissey, the wings aren't real, and short of Hemmingway's 6-toed cats, you won't be getting a feline with thumbs, either.
8.08.2008
drama, chipmunks, kittens, & south park.
today for Friday Felines, i give to you the best "dramatic" i've yet seen: the dramatic cat.
and if that's not enough drama for you, i give you also the Original Dramatic Chipmunk (prairie dog? gopher? click here for full context) as well as the competitive Dramatic Lemur.
for more ways to waste your friday, take a trip down memory lane to all the "viral" insanity compiled by Internet Memes; go on, you know you want to reminisce with the Hamster Dance, Numa Numa, All Your Base Are, Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Llama Song, and all the rest. and if you need even more funny than that (are you INSANE, MAN?!) revisit the South Park clip/episode where the boys meet the internet stars at the Department of Internet Money on Canada on Strike.

as promised. Likkr lizenz ... DNI'D!
in this week's installment of Friday Felines, i am sending you over to the List Gods. okay, they're not really gods. they're a bunch of people who have nothing better to do than make lists with usually no more than 4-6 items on them. what kind of a list is that, i ask you? not an action list, that's for sure!
from here, Selected Minutes From Lolcat City Council Meetings:
We'z on ur lawn, fynin' ur i sor.
I can haz lodin' zone?
Stait'z in r skoolz, jerrymandrin' r diztrix!
I haz angree at skaytborderz!
We'z in ur biz, surchin' 4 bak taxz.
Y r kidz duso por on standrdiz'd testz? I blaymz skoolz!
Likkr lizenz ... DNI'D!
in truth, the funniest i've found of these lists has nothing to do with cats. and i won't get into the fact that the above list actually uses pretty shitty lolcatspeak (if an invented language can have rules--oh wait it can). what i actually mean when i say i love you: 30 scenarios. c'mon, own up: which of those have you said in subtitles? i know i'm guilty of:
-I approve of your behavior at this moment.
-I know you need assurances that I feel the same way about you.
-That is the exact CD I wanted to hear.

friday felines part 3: riblet, cosplay, sharks.
as always promised, here i go, distracting your fridays with.... felines!
first order of business: Riblet.
"Bird loathing works up a powerful hunger." -- Riblet.
if you ever wanted to read a twitter feed consisting mainly of a cat discussing its food bowl, @riblet is for you. OK, so you may ask yourself, who the fuck cares? and you'd be right, because i asked myself the same damn thing. except for, it turns out to be awesome. see why here. be curious, support the "gray cat agenda."
second order of business: catgirls.
okay, not really catgirls. it's the inversion of cosplay. rather than girls dressing up as cats, this (Japanese) site encourages cats dressing up as girls. or samurai. or robin hood. or a corn doll. don't ask. just go. get a good giggle. and then feel pity for that very, very patient feline who didn't tear out his or her owner's eyes during that photoshoot.
last order of business: sharks.
bad photoshop, but still, some creepy merit a la sharkweek (when was that anyway?).
previous friday feline installments: (1: kitten wars, 2: zombie cats)

a new habit. distracting you.
alright, so it seems in addition to Friday Felines, i offer links worthy of friday distraction. i can do that. i'm often distracting--and distracted.
in the theme of zombies, you can now find out how long you would last trapped in your own home. or office. or cubicle. or where ever you call home. i'm a little disturbed that they account for pets, but hey. i can survive 87 days. however, i would only feed 10 zombies. you say tomato, i say cannibal. both are some form of human eating me. state of death isn't vital.
on to felines!
let's start with different interpretations of zombie cats.
inspirational zombie cat. postcard zombie cat. zombie lolcat. and my personal favourite zombie lolcat here.
got a zombie cat picture? send it my way. in the meanwhile, i'm going to continue doing actual work, and post something of relative substance later.
6.20.2008
distracting your fridays. step 1.
my random Google search for kittens produced the greatest waste of time ever. for those of you who loved Noah Brier's Brand Tags (and its subsequent battle mode, there's a feline version (no relation).
Kitten War. what's not to love?
or, for those of you who enjoyed the oddity of the myspace takeover, @johnny_bones gives you the new Dark Knight game.
